Sample Sale

Have you ever fancied those lovely knitted samples hanging in the store? Now’s your chance to take one home. On June 30 we’ll be holding our second annual sample sale in conjunction with the big Greenwood car show. While antiques and hot rods take over the street, we’ll be out on the sidewalk selling children’s wear, accessories and adult sweaters made from discontinued yarns. Once again we’ll have dozens of projects for sale (although remember, most of our sweaters are sized for petite women or teenagers.) The prices will be very competitive, often less than the cost of the yarn.

Greenwood Avenue will be blocked off for the show, so don’t forget to drive here via 83rd Street North and park in the lot behind our building.

Seattle Bag Fees

On July 1, Seattle’s new bag ordinance will go into effect, changing the way retailers do business. Like every other store, we will be prohibited from giving out thin plastic bags and we must charge 5 cents for large paper bags.

The good news is that we anticipated the change months ago and switched to thicker plastic bags that are considered reusable and are legal to give out. These bags are big enough for most purchases. And we know that many of you already bring your own bags to shop with. We hope you’ll continue to do so.

However, for those extra-large purchases (you know, the ones that you sneak into the house and hide from your significant other) we may occasionally have to charge you the nickel for a big paper carrier. We hope you understand that we’re just complying with the law, and that the end goal is keep the environment a little more healthy.

Hints of Summer

As summer threatens to make an appearance in the Seattle area we have some new, fun, bright accessories perfect for those warm sunny days.

From RockFlowerPaper we have a new selection of fabric tote bags. They come in bright greens, blues and yellows, and are roomy enough for a big knitting project and all your other stuff.

From Lantern Moon we have brightly striped project accessory bags with zippers and carrying handles. They’re adorable, and the last batch flew out of the store.

Embellish With Wool

We’ll be offering a new class Saturday, June 9, on Surface Design with Felting Needles. Students will be given a wool felt zippered change purse which they will decorate any way they wish with unspun wool. It’s great fun and needs no previous experience with felting. The two-hour class includes the purse, felting needles, a foam pad to work on and fiber. It costs $45.
