Un-Square Grannies

Crocheted squares aren't just for grannies any more. Use them to display the slow color changes in a yarn like Kauni (left, above) or whip them up in an unusual shape like a pentagon (right, above.) The squares can be joined to make a traditional afghan, a vest, a skirt, a cushion, a laptop case -- the possibilities are endless.
To learn more about patterns, color changes and more, join our class Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If you'd like to register, give us a call at 206-706-4197 or email us at info@fibergallery.com.

Clapo-Ktus: Great Shawl, Funny Name

Have you seen Clapo-Ktus, a merger of the ingenious and ubiquitous Clapotis and the equally clever and often riffed-upon Baktus? Borrowing the lacy dropped stitches of Clapotis and placing them in the side to side construction of Baktus, Clapo-Ktus yields a luxuriously-sized, elegant, simple shawl with just one skein of Handmaiden Sea Silk. Cathy knit up our shop sample in Moss in just a few days.

The Simplest Cowl

Rowan's newest yarn, Kidsilk Haze Trio, takes three strands of their iconic Kidsilk Haze and spins them together into one of the loftiest, softest bulky yarns you will ever see. The colorways are subtly marled creating a play of light and dark in its fuzzy, silken loveliness. We wanted to create a pattern--perhaps pattern is too grandiose a word--to highlight this amazing yarn while keeping it simple.

What's simpler than a cowl, knit in the round from a single skein of yarn?

The Simplest Cowl

Yarn: 1 skein Kidsilk Haze Trio
Needles: US 10.5 (or larger for a looser cowl)
Sizes: Approximately 11”x30”

Cast on 100 stitches.  Join to work in the round, taking care not to twist. Knit until approximately 2 yards of yarn remain. Bind off and weave in ends.

We weren't kidding when we said simple!
