Another year nearly gone. As we approach the new year, the Fiber Gallery staff are grateful for our community of knitters and other craftspeople. We plan to keep right on searching out the latest and greatest in fiber in 2010 and beyond. Thank you so much for being a part of our wonderful 2009.

Sale of the Week

Elsebeth Lavold's Silky Wool is a perennial favorite. It can be worn nearly year-round in Seattle. A combination of wool, silk and nylon in a light DK-weight, Silky Wool has lovely drape, tweediness and shows of cables beautifully.

Holiday Hours

Just a reminder of changes to our normal hours during the holidays.
We will close at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 24 and be closed all day on December 25. We will reopen on December 26 with our normal hours (10-6). We will also close early on December 31 at 6 p.m. and be closed all day on January 1.

Sale of the Week

With all the vibrant color of its worsted-weight counterpart, Noro Kureyon Sock is an exciting knitting experience. The subtle texture and exquisite color combinations make this sock weight blend of wool and nylon a knitting adventure. Each skein is 460 which is ample for tall socks and small shawls. It also works up beautifully in crochet.

EZ's Green Sweater and ABCSJ

We just got a shipment of the Green Sweater pattern, recently featured in Twist Collective. You can read about the discovery of this long-lost design by Elizabeth Zimmermann here and read about its recreation here.

We also got in the ABCSJ pattern. Elizabeth Zimmermann's timeless Baby Surprise Jacket (BSJ) has been upsized and expanded. It now comes in adult (A) and child (C) sizes. The pattern booklet features more fleshed out instructions than Elizabeth's original "pithy" rendition. It also features color illustrations that outline the pattern construction. We are offering a class on the BSJ this spring.

Spud & Chloë made a huge splash this summer. Their line features luxurious yarns in fresh and fun colors.

Winter Class Schedule

Our new class schedule is available on our website. The new newsletter is at the printer and should be landing in your mailbox soon if you are on our mailing list.

We've added many new classes. Continuing Crochet and Continuing Knitting provide the "next step" for new stitchers. We are offering Learn to Crochet for Kids (and Parents Too). We've also introduced some new knitting project classes including Bias Lace Scarf, Twined Hat and a class on Elizabeth Zimmermann's Baby Surprise Jacket.

Sale of the Week

Yukon, a hand-dyed bamboo/wool/nylon sock yarn blend, has everything you look for in a sock yarn. It's machine-washable. It's durable. It's has sheen and shows off your stitches beautifully. And it comes in lovely, muted colors due to the bamboo fiber.

Knit-A-Square

We recently found a knitter on Ravlery who wanted to spearhead a Seattle initiative to knit (or crochet) squares for Knit-A-Square. The charity collects 8" squares to make into blankets and garments for AIDS orphans in southern Africa.

Crocheting and knitting for charity, especially for children in need, is not only an act of love but makes a difference. There are many millions of abandoned children, AIDS orphans and child-headed families in southern Africa, who live in dire poverty. They lack love, shelter, food, education and warmth.

We support the hard working children's charities, like Hotel Hope, who provide the first four of their basic human needs. Your crocheting and knitting for charity can provide the last, warmth.

Your contribution of squares to this crochet and knitting project adds to the many thousands of 8"/20cm squares from around the world, which continue to be joined into blankets and distributed to these children.
